One book, start to finish. An iPhone app for memorizing all thirty-one chapters of Proverbs โ€” narrated end to end, so you can work on it with your hands full and your eyes closed.

Why one book

I asked for wisdom. The answer was a reading assignment.

For years I prayed the prayer in James 1:5 โ€” asking God for wisdom, because His word says He gives it generously. The answer I got was simple: you want wisdom โ€” memorize Proverbs. I put it in that book for you.

For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.Proverbs 2:6

So I set out to do it, and couldn't find a tool built for the job. Every app I tried was an empty container you pour your own verses into. I wanted the opposite โ€” one book, in order, all the way through. My wife and I have six children, and Solomon wrote this book to hand his wisdom to his own. That's the whole design.

There is no verse library here, no way to add other passages, and no plan to expand to other books. It does one thing.

How it works

Built around the book's own structure

  • 165 passages, not arbitrary chunks. The book is divided along the NASB's own section headings, so you learn it in the units it was edited into.
  • Narrated end to end. Every passage, professionally read. It keeps playing in the background with lock-screen controls and a repeat mode โ€” for the car, the gym, the walk.
  • Four ways through a passage. Read it, listen to it, say it out loud, then fill in the blanks from memory.
  • It grades itself. The app watches how much you revealed, how many attempts you took, and how closely you recited โ€” then tells you the grade and why.
  • Review timed to you. Scheduling uses FSRS-5, a current spaced-repetition algorithm, so passages come back just before you'd lose them.

What it isn't

Nothing is being sold here

This was built for my own family. It is easier to list what the app doesn't do.

  • No analytics, no tracking, no data collection of any kind
  • No internet connection required โ€” it works entirely offline
